The Big Book Text
(a) If we have been through about our personal inventory, we have written down a lot. We have listed and (b) analyzed our resentments. (c) We have begun to comprehend their futility and their fatality. We have commenced to see their terrible destructiveness. We have begun to learn tolerance, patients and good will toward all men, even our enemies, for we look on them as sick people. We have listed the people we have hurt by our conduct, and are willing to straighten out the past if we can.
In this book you read again and again that faith did for us what we could not do for ourselves. We hope you are convinced now that God can remove whatever self-will has blocked you off from Him. If you have already made a (d) decision, and an inventory of your (e) grosser handicaps, you have made a good beginning. That being so you have swallowed some big chunks of truth about yourself. Workshop notes:
List Assets And Liabilities
Liabilities are found by studying our "Faults List".
Assets- Page 46, 12 & 12-
"The sponsor probably points out that the newcomer has some assets that can be noted along with his liabilities"
"Liabilities" by themselves would be an immoral inventory
"Assets" by themselves would be an amoral inventory
"Assets & Liabilities" together make a moral inventory.
a- this part of the text is a wrap up to what we have done so far.
b-"analyzed our resentments" declares how we dealt with resentments.
c- some positive results of what we have done so far.
d- step 3.
e- Grosser handicaps- the causes and conditions, faults and liabilities we are able to find at this time.
When we dealt with resentments, fears and sex conduct, we were searching.
When we dealt with our faults, we were fearless.
We now wrap it all up with the moral and final part as it was explained in paragraphs 2 & 3, page 64
Moral means: rights & wrongs, goods & bads or assets & liabilities as used in the 12 & 12, page 46.
